Natalecci
Natalecci are an ancient tradition, handed down from year to year from the elderly to the young, which could date back as far as 100 BC. and which is repeated annually on the night of December 24th in the hamlet of Gorfigliano. They consist of cylindrical structures that are obtained by planting a wooden trunk called “temple” on the ground around which a large quantity of juniper branches are arranged, through a procedure called “weaving”, a wood that is well suited to burning vigorously. These large structures which can reach 15 meters in height and 4 meters in width, arranged in different points of the town, are burned on the night of Christmas Eve and are the subject of a competition, in fact, each neighborhood sets up a bonfire and the one that wins whose flame lasts over twenty minutes, is higher, clearly visible and without smoke. All judged by a real jury.
